Police in Pittsfield will not be enforcing the statewide stay at home order or face covering requirements.

In a letter released Monday, Pittsfield Police Chief Mike Starman said that, after consulting with the State’s Attorney, he decided that until there is clear and convincing evidence there is a public health crisis from COVID-19 in Pittsfield, his department would not enforce the governor’s stay at home order or face covering requirements.

Chief Starman also said that citizens should still practice social distancing and continue other common sense measures and those considered high risk should take necessary precautions to take care of themselves.
