Pittsfield Police Chief Mike Starman says officers and Pike County Sheriff’s deputies learned of a male juvenile who reportedly had a weapon and intended to shoot someone.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the juvenile by phone, but he told officers he was looking for a specific person with the intention of shooting them.

This led to an extended chase of the juvenile in his pickup on streets, rural roads and farm fields in and around Pittsfield.

The chase came to an end when the juvenile hit a Pittsfield Police car head on.

Several law enforcement vehicles were heavily damaged and two Pittsfield police officers suffered minor injuries.

The crash investigation is being handled by the Illinois State Police.
