A new date has been set for the permanent closure of the old Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has now set Tuesday, September 3rd, weather permitting, as the date that the 90 year old structure that once carried Highway 54 across the Mississippi at Louisiana will close for good.

The new Champ Clark Bridge opened to traffic August 3rd. The old bridge remained open while work crews built an access road from the new bridge to the marina on the Illinois side of the bridge.

The access road is in place, but wet weather has prevented the old bridge from being permanently closed.
