No one was hurt when a private plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a rural Brown County road Wednesday evening.

According to Emergency Management Director Curt Hannig, authorities responded to a report of the emergency landing on Illinois 99 north of Mt. Sterling just after 5 p.m.

The Brown County Sheriff’s office reports that 66 year old John Musgrave of Morris, Illinois took off from Mt. Sterling Municipal Airport. His plane had engine trouble shortly after take-off, resulting in the emergency landing.

There was no damage to the plane or the road. Highway 99 was closed for about two hours so the plane could be towed back to the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
