Pike County, Missouri authorities are investigating what they were told was an accidental shooting that left a woman with a wound to the head.

The incident took place late Wednesday afternoon at a home on a rural road southeast of New Hartford near the Pike/Lincoln County line. A 911 call came from the home at 4:21 p.m.  Sheriff Stephen Korte says a woman with a head wound was taken by medical helicopter to a St. Louis area hospital. A condition report is not available. Korte says the weapon involved is a long gun.

A man at the home was being held for questioning by investigators, but his name had not been released because he had not been charged as of Thursday morning. Korte said a male juvenile also was home at the time.

Korte said Thursday morning that it was still unclear how the incident happened and that investigators were looking at all possibilities.
