A new twist has developed in the case of the 7 week-old baby allegedly injured by a Hannibal man.

According to WGEM News, the baby has been released from the hospital but is now recuperating in foster care.

The baby’s mother, Melinda Britt, was reportedly arrested this week on a probation violation.  Britt was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to drug charges in 2012.

The violation is said to be due to her association with 29 year-old Dustin Dye. Dye is accused of causing serious injuries to the infant June 3rd.  The baby was first taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital before being transferred to a St. Louis hospital.  Dye was arrested by Hannibal Police June 7th and charged with two counts of Assault in the First Degree.

Dye appeared by video conference in Marion County Court Friday.  His preliminary hearing was set for July 28.  He could receive up to two consecutive life sentences if convicted.
