Missouri Intersection Suddenly 1 of the 11 Most Dangerous in US
Do you consider Time Magazine to be a reputable source? It's certainly one of the most famous. Would you believe that they have suddenly chosen one innocent-looking Missouri intersection as one of the 11 most dangerous in America and there's good reason for that.
This interesting ranking of dangerous intersections by Time Magazine isn't just some writer's opinion. They incorporated numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asking the question of how many fatal accidents have happened at road junctures across the country.
This Missouri intersection has had more than 6 fatal accidents over the past decade. It does not look precarious. It's the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Montgomery Street in St. Louis.
What I don't understand is the fact that visibility going both directions is good with no blind spots.
The problem are what St. Louis, Missouri residents know are drivers that hit excessive speeds on North Grand which KSDK says has led to 69 crashes in just a four-month period.
That could be about to change as St. Louis Magazine says a plan has been unveiled to redesign the North Grand Boulevard area in an effort to make it safer. Roundabouts and a bike lane are among those plans. I shudder to think how St. Louis drivers that speed down North Grand now will deal with roundabouts, but I applaud the city for trying something different. There's little doubt that lives depend on street designers coming up with a better plan for this part of the city.
