Movement continues toward a major upgrade and renovation at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy.

State officials say they expect to close in a few weeks on the purchase of the former Sycamore Health Care Centre facility a couple blocks south of the Veteran's Home
grounds. State Senator Jil Tracy has introduced a stand alone capital appropriations bill of up to 250-million dollars for a new Illinois Veterans Home facility. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner hopes that politics will be put aside to get work started soon. Rauner also wants approval of design-build to save money and time in completing work to build a new Illinois Veterans Home facility in Quincy. Despite Illinois' on going financial problems, the money can be found. Rauner says that is a matter of priorities. The governor also says a new facility and new well based water source for the entire city should do much to reduce Legionnaire's disease outbreaks.Legionnaire's is a factor in 13 deaths at the Quincy Illinois Veterans Home since 2015.
