A 19-year-old Moberly man faces child pornography charges.
The Missouri Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control says Joseph Schmitt was arrested following an investigation by their digital forensics investigative unit. Use of a search warrant Tuesday in Moberly resulted in investigators finding child porn and computer equipment used to commit the crime. Schmitt was arrested and taken to the Randolph County Justice Center in Huntsville.

The Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Schmitt Wednesday with possession of child pornography—first offense, child molestation in the first degree, statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 12 years old. Bond for Schmitt is set at $500,000 cash only.

Authorities say additional charges are possible.
