Watch the Missouri State Fair Butter Cow Come to Life

The Missouri State Fair has officially kicked off, but it's not the rides and grandstand entertainment visitors want to see... it's the butter cow.

One of the biggest attractions at the Missouri State Fair is the butter cow; this year's sculpture is LARGE. It took 500 pounds of unsalted butter, and 5 days to mold and sculpt, and the results are amazing as to what an artist can do with butter.

You can visit this year's creation at the Gerken Dairy Center at the Missouri State Fair, which runs through August 18th. Several events are happening throughout the fair including some big entertainment names hitting the grandstand including Alabama and Tracy Lawerence.

Iowa claims to have been the first state fair to create a "butter cow," Illinois and Missouri have one each year. After the fair is over the butter is recycled for a local dairy farm so nothing gets wasted. That would be a lot of baking to use all of that butter.
