I remember when last summer many in Missouri were hoping and praying for rain as much of the state was enduring a drought. This summer it's a totally different story as some parts of the state were just drenched with 8 inches of rain according to meteorologists.

I saw this incredible graphic just shared by the National Weather Service in St. Louis. It's rainfall totals for many parts of Missouri from July 3 through July 5. Look at these numbers.

Right in the middle of Missouri, not the area just to the west-northwest of Columbia that measured a remarkable 8 inches of rain. Somebody find the canoe.

You can see on the map the path of storms that seemed to follow interstate 70 where the region just north of Kingdom City also saw almost 8 inches of rain. It appears that no part of Missouri went without moisture to start July.

That doesn't totally eliminate drought conditions in Missouri, but the recent moisture sure does help. The most recent drought monitor shows that there are still areas in the middle of Missouri that could use a little more rain.

Let's hope the recent pattern of thunderstorms and rain every few days continues as the summer continues so Missouri can finally be relieved of the dry conditions that made farming an even greater challenge.
