This is one of those stories that will perhaps make you question what is going on in our world where something like this is necessary to get help. A Missouri man allegedly robbed a bank of just $20 so he could go to prison to get medical help.

I am still nearly without words for what the Cape Girardeau, Missouri Police Department shared on their Facebook page today.

In case you can't read the small Facebook print on your device, Richard Bann is a 72-year-old Springfield, Missouri man who walked into a bank and told a teller to put some cash in an envelope. She complied and he simply walked out of the door and waited out front for police to arrive. When the officers approached him, he simply handed them the envelope which had $20 in it and surrendered without issue. The Cape Girardeau, Missouri Police learned that he simply wanted to go to prison to get medical help he needs.

A crime is a crime and there's no condoning robbing anyone anywhere and Mr. Bann is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond according to the report.

One final thought which is my own and not to be mistaken for approving of what this man did, but it's a sad reality that medical assistance is out of reach for many in our world. I feel for the desperation of this Springfield, Missouri man who ended up in a place in his life where his only help would be in prison. Tremendously sad.
