Missouri has already had its fair share of thunderstorms and the pattern that has been prevalent the past couple of weeks doesn't look to change anytime soon. Missouri and especially the middle of the state is in the danger zone for a major lighting event soon.

It might be a good idea to make sure your surge protectors are in good shape if you live in the middle of Missouri. One of the more famous (and trusted) internet weather guys, Ryan Hall, just shared an interesting look at incoming weather that is likely to affect much of Missouri starting on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

This is a snapshot of what the European model predicts regarding lightning on Sunday. This shows the expected lightning flash density which looks to be intense over the middle of Missouri.

Moving forward to Tuesday looks like it could potentially be an even more widespread event. This is the same European model which shows Missouri again in the lightning danger zone with big activity even over the northeastern part of the state.

When you look at the model's storm trough prediction, you can see that many of the variables are in place for what could be another stormy (and shocking in a lightning kind of way) next few days in Missouri.

The National Weather Service out of St. Louis doesn't issue forecasts this far out for lightning activity from what I can remember, but there are thunderstorms in the forecast for Columbia, Missouri for Sunday, May 5 already.

Since this is Missouri weather we're talking about, it can and likely will change. But, be aware that lightning could be an issue starting in a few days over the state. Better safe than sorry.
