Why is Missouri Suddenly Warning About Dangerous Monkeypox?
I've heard it said that prevention is the best kind of cure. Perhaps that's why the state of Missouri is suddenly warning about the dangers of Monkeypox.
I don't mean this as anything against the Missouri Department of Health, but I find this new warning about Monkeypox to be curious and a bit unusual. Paranoid me wonders if they know something the rest of us don't (yet).
What is Monkeypox?
The World Health Organization says it's a human-to-human virus that can cause painful rashes and sores plus it enlarges lymph nodes and can cause high fever. They note that almost all have a full recovery.
As of the date of this writing, there are no cases of Monkeypox in the United States that have been confirmed. The Missouri Department of Health says (and I quote):
"CDC recommends clinicians and jurisdictions in the United States maintain a heightened index of suspicion for mpox"
Why should Missouri be concerned about Monkeypox if it isn't already here?
The US Sun just shared today a troubling article about how the Monkeypox threat "makes troubling return to the US". So is the Monkeypox virus here and we just aren't being told so or not? Why the warnings if it's only affecting Angola, Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and the South Sudan?
Back to the original point and that's my guess that they're just issuing the warnings in the event that we have cases in the United States and Missouri specifically from travelers overseas. Or, at least that's my hope.
