Missouri Hands-Free Law

Back in August, a new law went into effect in Missouri stating all drivers needed to be hands-free when operating a vehicle. This means not physically holding your phone in any way to read or send texts, phone calls, video meetings, or any recording.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2025, drivers will not be pulled over and fined if they are found using their phones while driving. Fines could be between $150 and $500. Drivers can use Bluetooth devices to take phone calls and speak-to-text options (some vehicles have this safety feature).

The Missouri Department of Transportation is fully on board with this law as they have seen several fatalities on Missouri roads due to distracted driving.

According to KMBC, an estimated 380 people have been killed and over 2,000 seriously injured over five years from distracted driving.
