This was one of the most widely-viewed fireballs of the year so far. Hundreds saw a meteor explode over Illinois and many captured videos of the event that briefly turned night into day over the Land of Lincoln.

The American Meteor Society confirms that this fireball appeared over Illinois at approximately 8:44pm and they've received 177 reports as of this writing. Here are several videos of the meteor as it exploded in the sky.

There are no reports of meteorite rocks being found so far even though the explosion appeared to happen at a relatively low altitude.

This fireball was reported over a dozen states including Illinois and the videos shared came from many different locations including Kentucky and Tennessee.
