With new predictions calling for river levels to come back up, officials now say the reopening of the Quincy Memorial Bridge will be delayed.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that it will be at least next week before Memorial Bridge will reopen to eastbound traffic.

This news comes as the National Weather Service now predicts that the Mississippi at Quincy will rise to 26.4 feet by Friday afternoon.

Officials say that once the river recedes, the bridge deck will be cleaned and the bridge structure will be inspected before it is reopened.

Also, debris lodged against the bridge will be removed while it remains closed.
