The Marion County Commissioners set its transportation priority list for 2017 at its regular meeting Monday.

According to Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode, a by-pass taking truck traffic around Hannibal has become the top priority on its list.

Bode said big trucks are already using Veterans Road and Paris Gravel Road to go around busy U.S. 61 through Hannibal.

The bypass has been sought for years, but hasn’t happened due to a lack of funding.

Other items on the priority list include improvement of the U.S. 61 corridor through Palmyra and an upgrade of the Highway 61/24 interchange south of Palmyra.
