The U.S. Highway 36/Interstate 72 Corridor Transportation Development District took another step toward putting themselves out of business Monday.

District Executive Director Larry Craig appeared before the Marion County Commissioners Monday with a check for $199,000. That’s a portion of the excess funds that the TDD must disburse before it can close up shop.

The district has presented similar checks to officials in Macon, Monroe and Shelby counties.

The district board plans to meet one final time in June to approve resolutions to abolish the district, approve all the final invoices and reimbursements and issue one more set of checks to the four counties before closing out its checking account.

The Transportation District was set up to administer the extra sales tax that was raised to help pay for the final stretch of four-lane U.S. 36 between Hannibal and Macon.
