The Marion County Commission denied a request to rezone property just west of Hannibal at their meeting Monday.

The county’s Planning and Zoning committee had recommended that the commission approve a request from Lois Damron that a three acre piece of land near the intersection of Highway 36 and MM be rezoned from agricultural to commercial.

Commissioner Steve Begley made a motion that the request be denied. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Larry Welch. The vote to deny the request was 2-1, with Presiding Commission Lyndon Bode voting against the denial.

If the rezoning has passed, Lois Damron had planned to sell the property to her son, Kevin, for expansion of his Hannibal Industrial Painting business.
