A man charged in a shooting death at a Springfield bus station has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson said Mohamed Dawod was declared incompetent last month for trial in the September 2011 shooting death of Justin Hall at a Greyhound station.

Witnesses and court documents say Dawood shot Hall as they stood in line to board a bus. The men didn't know each other and police say the shooting appeared to be random.

The Springfield News-Leader reports Keith Schafer, director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, will now decide whether Dawood should be committed or placed under guardianship.

Patterson said the case is expected to be dismissed without prejudice, meaning charges could be refiled if Dawod is declared competent in the future.
