Look at this Dragon Scale Calcite that was Found in Missouri
The first time I saw this I didn't think it could be real, but it is. It's a crystal that looks like a dragon's scale that was found in a mine in Missouri.
I found this on several different Reddit pages. The crystals sub-Reddit included a video of this amazing rock that was found in Sweetwater Mine in Missouri.
I understand that mythical dragons aren't real, but this appeared so much like the scale you imagine you'd see on one, I had to do some research to determine its authenticity. Not only is it real, it's also quite valuable. A slightly larger dragon scale calcite rock at DC Classic Minerals goes for nearly a thousand dollars. Another one on Etsy is nearly $3,000, but hey at least they offer free shipping.
The USGS shows that Sweetwater Mine is in Reynolds County, Missouri. They show it's produced Cadmium, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Silver and Zinc.
If you're thinking "I think I'll go adventuring and find myself some dragon scale calcite", the mine is located near Ellington, Missouri well south of St. Louis. But, you're not gonna be able to just waltz in there and start digging. The USGS shows this mine is owned by a private company.
The good news is that there's plenty of different sizes and variations of this crystal on Etsy if you have the coin to pay for it. It actually looks like it's magical enough to be made into some type of magic armor. OK, probably not.
