Kirk to Hold Heroin Task Force Meeting in Chicago
U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk wants the metropolitan Chicago area to take on the fight against heroin.
Kirk is holding a meeting on Monday in Chicago with coroners and states' attorneys from Cook County and the counties around the city of Chicago. That includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, McHenry and Will counties.
He says he wants them to attend the Anti-Heroin Task Force Meeting to discuss possible solutions to the drug problem.
Specifically, Kirk's office says the senator wants to talk about making the opiate overdose treatment naxolone accessible to first responders. His office says it's been successful in DuPage County.
Kirk started the task force in October with the goal of fighting the spread of heroin use in Illinois.
