Missouri’s New Most Affordable City Also Known For Its Waterfall
There's a new most affordable city in Missouri and it's a bit of a surprise considering it's also known for other things including its rather spectacular waterfalls which are quite grand.
Let's combine some new economic numbers with some scenic Missouri views. 24/7 Wall St just shared a brand new ranking today featuring the most and least affordable cities in Missouri. The lowest on their list (which in this case is a good thing) is a Missouri place known for other things than its affordability. Have you seen their waterfalls? Yes, the Grand Falls in Joplin rock.
Congratulations to Joplin, the apparent new king of affordability in Missouri. Here are the numbers shared that resulted in Joplin getting this recognition:
- Overall cost of living: 15.0% lower than U.S. average
- Median household income: $54,041 ($10,770 less than statewide median)
- Median home value: $171,000 ($50,200 less than statewide median)
There are a lot of ways to look at these numbers. Having the overall cost of living being 15% below the national average is definitely a positive and lower home values are good for buyers. But, the lower average household income also shows that Joplin families are not without their struggles.
You have to admire the many in Joplin who have overcome the tragic tornado of 2011. Having "affordable" as a word being used to describe your part of Missouri can only help.
