Let's do some defining first. What is a vampire virus anyway? The Scientific American says a vampire virus is one that preys on other viruses to replicate itself. Whew. At least it's not the one that turns a host into a vampire. SyFy has even gotten into the vampire virus discovery saying how shocked they were to learn that there is a virus that latches onto another virus to survive. This virus is certainly earning the vampire nickname. 

What does this have to do with Missouri?

The Independent reports that “vampire viruses have been discovered in soil samples in Maryland and Missouri for the first time." These multiple vampire viruses have been found in soil samples in Missouri. Watch where you step.

Let's put this another way. The "vampire viruses" that have been discovered in Missouri act similar to the villain in Stranger Things called the Mind Flayer. It survives, but only because of a host. Does this make Missouri the REAL Upside Down? Asking for a friend.

The good news is that none of us are in danger of becoming Dracula (yet). It is, however, an interesting development as modern society deals with viruses that are finding new ways to survive and thrive. Becoming a vampire in Missouri is a new one though.
