I can't wait until the chamber of commerce adds this to their list of why Quincy, Illinois is a great place to live. A new share of a nuclear map seems to prove the point that the Gem City may be the safest place to be when the you-know-what hits the fan.

Oh, boy am I loving this. The Illinois sub-Reddit is afire with a new share of a map that isn't new, but the perspective shared is interesting. It says "Apparently the safest city in Illinois (during a nuclear war) is… Quincy".

Let's zoom into the map so you can see closer the point they're making. The pink triangles and black circles are likely targets during a nuclear war. Notice that Quincy is in the middle of a huge clear area.

It's not all good news for Quincy, Illinois though

If you look at recent estimates of what the nuclear fallout would be from a major enemy attack, Quincy (and the entire Midwest in general) would be a terrible place to try and survive even without being directly targeted. The good news is you'd easily survive the first or even second nuclear strikes. The bad news is you'd probably regret surviving those strikes and slowly dying from radiation poisoning. Still, let's focus on the good news. Quincy, Illinois will be a haven of joy for about 15 minutes after the first nuclear strike and that's a win in my book.
