Missourians Spend More Time Driving Than Almost Anyone Else
I would call this an upset. Over the past year, Missouri drivers have clocked in more miles than almost any other state and it really makes you wonder why we travel so much.
Finance Buzz crunched some driving numbers from the Federal Highway Administration and what they found about Missouri drivers is remarkable
In case you weren't aware, the federal government keeps track of how much you drive. They found that on average, Americans drive 13,916 miles every year, but not drivers in Missouri. No way. Missouri drivers are way more enthusiastic than that.
How many miles do Missouri drivers travel every year?
Missouri drivers on average drove 19,046 miles every year. Here's an alarming fact. That's just the drivers in Missouri not including those without a license. (*Shudder*) That places Missouri 4th among states with drivers that travel the most only trailing Wyoming, Mississippi and Indiana. In just the past 12 months, Missouri drivers traveled 82,078,000,000 miles collectively. Good thing gas prices in Missouri are among the cheapest in America. Yikes.
Why do Missouri drivers drive so much?
It's hard to draw just one conclusion as to why Missourians spend so much dang time in their vehicles. The best vacation destinations in Missouri seem like they're on the other side of the state and Missouri is also right in the middle of America if you want to vacation in the mountains or near a coast. Still, that could be said of most of the midwestern states and none drive nearly as much as Missouri except the Hoosiers in David Letterman Land. Go figure.
