Find a 1984 Penny in Illinois? Error on Lincoln’s Ear = Big Bucks
Coins don't always have to be rare to be valuable. That's the case for a 1984 penny you might easily come across in Illinois. There are many that have an error on Lincoln's ear that could make them worth thousands.
According to The Coin Guy on TikTok, there were over 8 billion Lincoln pennies minted in 1984. He says that a relatively high number in that batch had an error involving a "double ear" on Lincoln.
This exact penny was in nearly perfect condition (MS68 out of a possible MS70) and sold for over $7,000 in 2009. The good news is that even pennies like this in terrible condition that have the error are still often sold for more than $100.
He also mentioned that it's not only 1984 pennies, but a few other years also. It's just that 1984 seems to be the most common with the double ear on Lincoln. That's one of the reasons why I always recommend following The Coin Guy on TikTok for the latest rare coins that could score you big bucks.
