Illinois Man Gets 16 Years For Sexual Assault
A Springfield man will spend 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman three years ago.
Sangamon County Circuit Judge John "Mo" Madonia sentenced Christopher Westfall on Monday. The Springfield State Journal-Register reports the 34-year-old Westfall was convicted by a jury in August of two counts of criminal sexual assault for a July 26, 2012 incident involving a 39-year-old woman he knew.
Westfall must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.
Prosecutors sought a 24-year sentence while Westfall's attorney recommended the minimum of four years for each count.
Trial testimony revealed Westfall was drunk when he went to the woman's house at 2 a.m. She let him sleep on her couch but later Westfall woke her up, the two struggled, and Westfall assaulted her.
