A February 26 hearing is scheduled for a Frankford man accused of killing a neighbor’s pit bull.

Michael Buchanan is charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor animal abuse. Authorities report the incident happened at 4 p.m. January 14 on a rural road near Frankford.

According to a probable cause statement, Buchanan claimed he shot the dog because he thought it was going to attack him.

Buchanan is accused of then pointing the gun at the neighbor’s feet. Authorities say the neighbor struck the suspect in the face
