Hannibal Time Capsule Letters Delivered

It took some investigative work,  but some letters found in Hannibal’s sesquicentennial time capsule will be in the right hands.

Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department staff tracked down John Wayne Bowen and his son Michael Patrick Bowen. Letters written to them in 1969 by Kay Speckhart—John Bowen’s mother—were included in the time capsule. Speckhart worked for the Courier Post in 1969. Michael Bowen lives in Breese Illinois and will come to Hannibal to get the letters.

Over 50 years… water damaged many of the items in the vault. Some things could be salvaged. Others could not. A new time capsule is being prepared. It will close on October 26th and is to be opened in 2069.
