Police in Hannibal are trying to help a man whose odor was so pungent that it led to peace disturbance calls.

Officials at both City Hall and a nearby business called police on March 25 complaining about the smell of the homeless man. In both cases the man left without being arrested.

Police Lt. John Zerbonia told the Hannibal Courier-Post that police are working with a community service group and a Christian organization to provide the man with clean clothes, hygiene products and a place to shower.

Zerbonia says Hannibal has seen a growing number of homeless people in recent years. He says police do their best to find them shelter, mental health and medical aid.
