Members of the Hannibal Fraternal Order of Police turned out in force Saturday, December 5 for the annual Shopping with Cops and Kids event.

About half of HPD's officers helped with the annual Christmastime event. A total of 16 local kids were helped in purchasing gifts for their families and themselves at the Hannibal Wal Mart.

After the shopping trip, gifts were wrapped at Hannibal Police headquarters, followed by a pizza party.

According to HPD Sgt. Jacob Nacke, "Each year we get the opportunity to help a really great group of kids and it highlights positive interaction with law enforcement and our local youth. Given our current times and controversial events portrayed nationally, I think it is very important to show children that we are friends, mentors, and someone who can help them."
