The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department is getting grant money to renovate the pond in Huckleberry Park.

Word was received Wednesday that Parks and Rec will get a $184,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.

Engineers have estimated that the renovation of the pond will cost about $500,000. Parks and Rec will match the grant mostly with in-house labor and equipment.

The pond in Huckleberry Park currently leaks and has accessibility issues.

The plans are for the pond to be widened and deepened, for piping to be replaced and for a handicap accessible dock to be installed.

The current timetable is for bids to be taken next summer, with the project to be completed by the end of 2019.
