What began as the arrest of a car thief suspect in Hannibal, Missouri suddenly became something much more. According to the police report, the alleged car thief is also an illegal immigrant.

The Hannibal, Missouri Police Department shared the news of this arrest on their Facebook page earlier Tuesday.

The report says that Hannibal Police arrested Oday J. Elayyan, 28-year-old of St. Louis, and charged him with tampering with a motor vehicle. After running his records, they learned he was also an illegal immigrant and now the Department of Homeland Security is involved. He is believed to have entered America from Mexico.

According to the report, Hannibal police pulled the suspect over for a speeding violation only to learn that the car he was driving had been reported stolen from Ohio.

The Hannibal Police said "The US Department of Homeland Security will take custody of Elayyan for removal proceedings under the Immigration and Nationality Act".
