A Hannibal pastor decided it was time to show public support for law enforcement.  The Mayor, city council, and citizens joined in Tuesday evening.

Pastor Tom Lemons of the First United Methodist Church says his congregation felt led to pray for law enforcement , in the wake of national news stories of violence against officers.

A number of Hannibal Police officers were on hand Tuesday as Lemons presented a card of appreciation from his church.

Mayor Hark, a former HPD officer, read a proclamation honoring the men and women who wear the badge. On behalf of the citizens,  Hark expressed appreciation for the administration and staff, and especially the officers out on the streets everyday. Hark said the job has only gotten more challenging and stressful since he wore the uniform.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the packed house gave the officers a standing ovation.
