The Hannibal Cavemen battled back in the middle innings, but in the end came up short Wednesday night, losing 10-5 to the Rex in Terre Haute.

After giving up two runs to the Rex in the first, Hannibal tied the game with single unearned runs in the second and third, then took the lead in the fourth as center fielder Wyatt Champlin scored on a sacrifice bat off the bat of right fielder Nicco Lollio.

After Terre Haute regained the lead with three in the bottom of the fourth, Hannibal tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth on a walk to third baseman Ross Lemmel, a triple by left fielder Fernando Ortiz, Jr. and an error.

The Rex took the lead for good with four runs in their half of the fifth on a single, two doubles, a wild pitch and a triple. They added another run in the eighth for the 10-5 win.

The Cavemen and Rex meet again Thursday at Clemens Field, with the first pitch at 6:38 p.m. To hear the webcast, click here.
