I once told my wife that I wanted to have myself registered as a lethal weapon and she laughed. A lot. Did you know there are real lethal weapons you're not allowed to have in Missouri or else?

I'm not a lawyer (or a lethal weapon), but I found several helpful legal websites that addressed the issue of what weapons you are not allowed to possess in Missouri. Gregory N Smith, Kevin Jamison and finally the Missouri Department of Tobacco and Firearms were great resources.

This is not meant to be a comprehensive list, but just some weapons that are forbidden in Missouri that I found interesting (and in some cases very confusing). One other important note: I am NOT a weapon owner or expert. I understand there may be permits for some weapons that I am not aware of and/or understand. This is the list lawyers have put on the Missouri banned weapons guidelines for the general public.

Brass Knuckles

Yes, brass knuckles were a popular prop in many 1970's action movies, but they'll get you busted in Missouri.

If you see someone walking around in Missouri, that likely means you'll see cars with sirens chasing them imminently. If not, call the officers with cars with sirens and alert them that a flame thrower is near you.

Exploding Bullets

Generally speaking, if a weapon has "exploding" in front of it, it's likely illegal and you can and will go to jail for possessing them.

Sawed-off Shotgun

Sawed-off weapons of any kind are forbidden in Missouri. Don't even think about it.

Firearm Silencers

I had no idea that firearm silencers were a no-no in Missouri. I guess I've watched too many Sylvester Stallone movies like Cobra in my lifetime.

Machine Guns

If a weapon is federally-banned, it's banned in Missouri and this is a great example.

Switchblade (maybe not banned now?)

Gregory N. Smith says switchblades are no longer banned in Missouri since the law was amended in 2012, but a statute says they're still banned if federally-banned, so that's a big maybe?

If you have serious questions about what weapons you can or can't have and/or use in Missouri, consult the real law and not just research from a curious fellow like myself who is NOT a lawyer (or secret weapon).
