Flood-fighting efforts are winding down in Clarksville as water levels slowly drop.

Americorps volunteers plan to leave Friday after spending more than a week helping residents and businesses put up sandbags and concrete barriers to keep the water out.
The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency is to visit Friday for an assessment. Meanwhile, the Clarksville United Methodist Church will serve the last of its free meals to flood volunteers Friday. Organizers will decide next week whether to keep the kitchen open.

The water level had dropped only three inches Thursday after cresting two days earlier. It’s not expected to drop below flood stage for more than two weeks.

A flood warning continues along the Mississippi from Canton to Alton and on the Illinois River at Valley City.
