Fire early Saturday morning damaged a house at 924 Payson Avenue in Quincy.
Quincy Fire Department Assistant Chief James Pioch says a passer-by noticed smoke and turned in the alarm at 6:30 a.m. Fire crews arrived to find heavy black smoke and flames coming from a second floor porch on the rear of the house. The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. A search of the house found it to be vacant although Pioch notes that smoke detectors in the house were working. Crews were on the scene for a few hours to extinguish hot spots. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
