(JEFFERSON CITY)—A Hannibal man is convicted on a federal firearms charge for possessing a sawed off shotgun.
Acting U.S. Attorney David Ketchmark says 44 year old David Lee Ardrey was found guilty of two counts in a federal indictment handed down September 2nd. Ardrey is convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and of illegally possessing a sawed-off shotgun. Ardrey was arrested on June 8, 2011, during a traffic stop in which he was the passenger in the vehicle. As officers searched the vehicle in which Ardrey was riding, he tried to escape from the patrol vehicle by kicking out the window. Officers pushed him back into the vehicle, but when they opened the door he attempted to push past the officers. One police officer was injured in subduing Ardrey. A loaded sawed off shotgun and ammunition were found in the vehicle. Ardrey is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $500,000.
