A former suburban St. Louis police officer has been sentenced to one year in jail for coercing a female motorist into sex.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 50-year-old Timothy Jones, of Troy, was sentenced Friday in St. Louis County Circuit Court. The former Country Club Hills police officer suspected the 24-year-old woman of drunken driving when he stopped her three years ago.

Court documents say that after telling her she could either have sex with him or be arrested, he drove her to her home, where they engaged in "several sexual acts."

The woman apparently left her cellphone in Jones' patrol car. Police contacted the woman's mother while trying to locate the owner of the phone and she made accusations about what had happened, leading to an investigation.
