My dad always told me that when you're in the backwoods of Missouri, assume that you're not alone and you'll be right more often than not. Those wise words came true for a Missouri outdoorsman who shared video revealing the moment he suddenly realized he was not alone in the woods.

Since this is a YouTube short and there's no date stamp, I'm not sure when this encounter happened, but I know based on the title that it happened in Missouri since it's named "Walked Up on Big Missouri Black Bear". As you'll see, that's an appropriate description.

This is the time of year when bears in Missouri are very active. The foraging intensity will increase during the fall months as these big predators start storing up the calories for the winter months ahead.

This video is a good reminder why you always want to make noise when you're in the woods. What you don't want is to surprise one of these black bears in Missouri. They will normally go where people aren't and really are vegetarians despite their dangerous reputation. The only time when you're seriously in danger of a bear attack is if you surprise the animal and/or they happen to have cubs nearby that they consider you a threat towards.

Most of the time, you'll never see a black bear in Missouri, but that doesn't mean they're present as this outdoorsman shared.
