A Quincy dining destination for over 60 years has closed its doors.

The owners of Elder’s Family Restaurant at 1800 State posted a sign on its front door Tuesday, stating that they are closing to assess major structural damage to their building.

The decision comes after meeting with contractors, engineers and the City of Quincy.

There are conflicting reports as to whether the closing is temporary or permanent.

Elder’s was known as Elder’s Drink Spot when it first opened on North 6th Street in the mid 50s.

They have been in their present location since 1970.
