Coroner Called to Hannibal Hi-Rise Fire Saturday
There has apparently been a death as the result of a fire at a residential hi-rise in downtown Hannibal Saturday morning.
Hannibal firefighters were called to Laura Hawkins Hall on North 11th Street at 7:50 a.m. Saturday.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Neisen, fire crews arrived to find a fire on the third floor of the building, along with one victim.
Neisen confirmed that the Marion County Coroner had been called to the scene. The Missouri State Fire Marshal's office has also been called in to assist with the investigation.
Marion County Ambulance crews were also on scene, tending to a number of residents who were evacuated because of the fire.
By mid-morning Saturday, fire crews were still on scene clearing the smoke from the building.
