The new year is expected to come in cold, wet and snowy in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

National Weather Service forecasters say that after a high of 37 Monday, temperatures will only top out in the low 20s Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will bounce back starting New Year's Day, climbing into the 30s Thursday through Sunday.

Lows will dip to 18 Monday, into single digits Tuesday and back into the mid-teens Wednesday before settling into the mid to upper 20s through the weekend.

Flurries are in the forecast Monday night and Tuesday. Chances of rain and snow move into the area Friday through Sunday.
