The future of a high-speed train that would connect Chicago with another major Midwest city is one step closer to becoming a reality. Where would this train go, and does it make sense to build it anyway? Here are the details you need to know...

According to an article from Fox 2 Now, A lawmaker in Illinois wants a high-speed train that would connect Chicago and St. Louis, the train would be able to get you from one city to the other in 2 1/2 hours if the lawmaker gets his way.

In the article, they say "Illinois U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Cook County) recently authored an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune in which he proposed the thought of a “two and a half” hour rail service between St. Louis and the Windy City." The article goes on to mention that the current Amtrak train between Chicago and St. Louis takes about 5 hours with a max speed of 110 mph, and driving takes about 5 hours if you have zero setbacks along the ride. Also, the article mentions that the lawmaker is inspired by the recent announcement of a high-speed train connecting Los Angeles and Las Vegas set to debut by 2028 which could get you between the two cities in 2 hours. BRILLIANT

WE NEED MORE HIGH-SPEED TRAINS. All over Europe and Asia high-speed trains run efficiently and effectively, we are the ONLY major country without legitimate high-speed trains. Starting with small projects like connecting Vegas and LA, Chicago and St. Louis, and other cities within a 5-hour drive, is the way to go. Once you make those smaller connections it is an easier sell to show investors why they need to spend big money to connect LA to Chicago to NYC by train in 5 hours.
