4 New Illinois Laws Monday Affect ‘Influencers’ and Immigrants
Monday is the beginning of a new week and a new month and for the state of Illinois the beginning of 4 new laws that go into effect including legislation that affects child influencers, driver's licenses and immigrants.
I saw NBC Chicago share this reminder on something I will confess that I had forgotten about and that's the fact that legislation in Illinois that was approved previously goes into effect July 1, 2024. They are as follows:
HB 3882
This is one of the more controversial new bills that will become law in Illinois which will enable undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver's license in Illinois. Governor JB Pritzker said ""This legislation is a significant step in eliminating the barriers to opportunity that many undocumented immigrants face...We're ensuring every eligible individual can obtain a driver's license, making our roads safer, decreasing stigma, and creating more equitable systems for all."
HB 1122
This new law will give freelance workers new protections saying "freelance workers must be compensated by hiring parties for their services in a timely manner." It adds that "a contracting entity must retain its contract with a freelance worker for no less than 2 years and must make the contract available to the Department of Labor upon request".
SB 1782
This is a bill that directly deals with minors who are child influences where Illinois says parents must put aside a portion of the proceeds of content featuring that child for them to claim later saying specifically "a specified amount of the volgger's content shared on an online platform must set aside a specified amount of gross earnings on the video content in a trust account".
SB 1993
This new law requires a presentation and vote of a school board regarding assessment tests. It requires "any district-administered assessment...that will be used to measure student progress at an attendance center within the school district, a school board must hold a public hearing at a regular or special meeting of the school board, in which the terms of the proposal must be substantially presented and an opportunity for allowing public comments must be provided".
