Burglary charges are filed in Marion County against a man suspected in multiple car thefts in Illinois.

The Marion County Sheriff’s department says Daniel Coonfield is charged with two counts of burglary after an incident last week where the suspect fled on foot from authorities after a woman found him in her garage stealing a gas can near Palmyra.

Deputies found Coonfield attempting to put gas in a vehicle with the stolen gas can. He fled on foot into a wooded area. Coonfield is also suspected of stealing a rucksack containg camouflage clothing and boots from a garage at another location in Marion County.

Surveillance video from a Palmyra convenience store appears to show Coonfield wearing the stolen items. Coonfield was taken into custody Saturday in Kirksville. He’s held in the Lewis County Jail.
