Center Police Chief David Ray Resigns

Center’s police chief has resigned.

Center City Attorney Joe Brannon reports that Chief David Ray submitted a letter of resignation Thursday, effective immediately.

The resignation comes in the wake of efforts by members of the city council to fire Ray, along with the firing of Ray’s wife, former City Clerk Tracey Ray, on July 3rd.

Tracey Ray was fired after the council learned that state-mandated financial reports had not been filed since 2015.

On July 2nd, Tracey Ray was shot during a confrontation with Ralls County deputies after she allegedly fired a gun at officers.

David Ray has been on administrative leave since the shooting.

Ray had been Center’s only police officer. The Ralls County Sheriff’s department is providing protection in the meantime.
